Out Of The Blue - A Job
Posted on Saturday, September 30th, 2006
I hardly mean to brag, but everything seems to be going right for me at the moment. Only last week my band were played on Radio 1 which thrilled me no end. Now I have more exciting news to spread; I have a job!
How Did That Happen Then?
Luck seemed to be a large part of it really. As you can probably tell, if you have read any other posts on this blog, I want to work in web development and I harbour a great interest in web standards and accessibility. Sadly I don’t have the necessary skills to apply for and get a job in this industry yet, but I have a plan that involves teaching myself and gathering experience and finally getting the job I want. However, there comes a time when your parents start asking more seriously when you are going to get a job, and that time was upon me.
Quicklink: Another Reason To Leave Internet Explorer
Posted on Monday, September 25th, 2006
Microsoft is considering the early release of a fix for a bug in Internet Explorer that malicious hackers are actively exploiting online.
Considering? The vulnerability only means that a malicious website can hijack a Windows PC and install anything they want. Anti-Spyware firm Sunbelt-Software have discovered sites using this vunerability to download spyware, including keyloggers, and adware onto unsuspecting users computers. Aren’t IE users lucky that Microsoft are thinking about releasing a patch before their monthly update, next due on the 10th of October?
If you have IE and are worried, ZERT have released an unofficial patch for the time being. The other, better option, of course, being to get Firefox or Opera instead.
Update (27/09/06): Microsoft have released the patch now, though they still claim that the attacks they had seen exploiting the bug were very limited

Veerle’s Photo Imaging Contest, My Weekend Entertainment
Posted on Sunday, September 24th, 2006
The irresistable urge to take part in competitions run by other bloggers has overcome me twice this week. Firstly, I submitted my how to, for the ProBlogger group writing project (look out for another one soon), now I’ve had a go at Veerle’s Photo Imaging Contest. The idea was simple, Veerle supplied four different pictures of herself and all you had to do was manipulate (at least) one of them in a creative or witty way. There are prizes on offer, but it is a bit of fun too.

Contact Form Fixed
Posted on Friday, September 22nd, 2006
Good news, my contact page is now fixed. I tried to write my own contact form but had trouble with the theme based construction of wordpress, so I went looking for another plugin. I have settled with Dagon Design’s Secure Form Mailer Plugin, but without using it’s CAPTCHA function. It was easy to install and set working, it is highly customisable and available in a non-plugin form too. If you are looking for a contact form for your blog, I recommend it.
So what are you waiting for? Go send me an email!
How Many Web Designers Does It Take To Change A Lightbulb?
Posted on Thursday, September 21st, 2006
Web standards are the backbone of the internet these days. Well built, good looking sites with semantic, valid mark up for the content and CSS controlling the design mean that pages render as they should for all users. Thanks to the W3C the web is a better place for all of us. Or is it?
