What’s Been Going On?
Posted on Thursday, June 5th, 2008
Wow! I haven’t written here for ages! It’s not like I don’t have anything to say either, I have some views and thoughts on reset style sheets, accessibility for the hearing impaired, microformats and the length of time it takes to load a site, but I just haven’t had the time to update!
What have I been doing then? Well, my job has been keeping me busy and recently we have launched two new sites, River Island’s Style Insider and Big Brother’s Big Ears. Both were hard work and took a lot of effort from the whole team, but also include some of my first bits of Ruby on Rails. I’m quite proud of being part of the team that has set both these sites up.
I almost lost my iMac the other week too, ended up re-installing OS X and crossing my fingers hoping that I didn’t lose all my data. Thankfully, it’s all still here, but that was a heart attack I didn’t need.
So what now? Well, I’m going to start posting again, starting with an update to my style sheet switcher. Why? Firstly, it’s very old code, back from when I knew hardly anything about javascript (though it works, can’t take that away)! Also, Smashing Magazine are having a style sheet switcher competition and I fancy entering that too, who wouldn’t want the prize on offer? There’s two weeks to enter, so I better get cracking.
In the meantime, if you do fancy keeping up with me off of the blog, I am on Twitter, so follow me!
Bye for now.

Graphic Design UK Says:Glad to see you back and champing at the bit. I write a couple of blogs and know all too well how easy it can be to slip into the routine of not updating. You skip it once, then think it won’t hurt if you skip it again and so on, unitl a month has passed and there’s been no posting.
keep up the good work.

Darren Says:Sites look good so congrats. I was thinking recently that I haven’t heard much from your site.
I too am suffering from a lack of time. I have even spent money on a whole new domain and host but haven’t had the time I thought to actually make anything for it.
I look forward to your future articles.

Nyssa Says:I feel you completely on the lack of time. Since starting work, my blogging has gone down the toilet but I’m hoping to fix that after I’ve redesigned. Now just to get the redesign finished hehe
Good to know you’ll be updating again! :)

Phil Says:Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I’m particularly interested in seeing your new design, Nyssa, and what you have planned with new domains and hosting Darren!
Let’s all get back on this blogging together and not let another month slip by!

Stephanie Says:I said on Twitter I’d check on you, you did ask after all… so here I am checking your blog. Ok you didn’t update it in the last 5 or 6 months but at least you didn’t cross the “one year without update” line like I did.
I’m curious to see your redesign.
Cheers :-)

Phil Says:Thanks Stephanie, the redesign is coming along. I decided what plugins to use last night, so there’s a nice bit of functionality change coming to the template too. It will look remarkably different soon!
It’s nice to see you about on Twitter, will you be posting to Web and the City any time soon?

Stephanie Says:I think about it but obviously not doing anything about it. Pondering really.
